Hello, I bought this library desk at auction without having seen it in person. When we got it we noticed the ER VII stamp on the table leg. I’m having real trouble finding any items on the internet with the same stamp to get an idea of if it has any value before I give it a make over. The closed I can see is the stamp but with a crown above it. It looks as though the previous owner has already done some work on the drawers which looks to have been added in later. Has anyone seen anything similar or have an idea if it is unique or it’s potential history or whether it is okay to give it a make over? thank you for any help Rachel
There is a chair at an auction from 2014 with same mark followed by Coronation. The auctioneer is calling it a Coronation Chair https://www.tooveys.com/lots/266494/an-edward-vii-mahogany-coronation-chair/
This is a little confusing to me because I always thought that ER stood for Elizabeth Regina but The VII stood for Henry. Hmm.
The Coronation stamped ones were made for that. The ones with just a regnal intial and number are generally civil service.
