This Royal Copenhagen Vase in 10" tall. Date Mark 1968 to 1974. It seems to have an incised mark but I cannot make it out. Is the 4171 the design or pattern number, can the designer be identified by the number ? Also how would you describe the design. Embossed Ovals ? Blanc de Chine?
I have looked all over and cannot find a vase like this.

Those listed for sale say Thorkild Olsen

Keyword for selling is 'mid century modern'

    Thank you JanetP and Terry.

When I Googled with the number I found it like Janet said. I did Google and missed it somehow. MCM it will be.

There appears to be a white line running down through the three blue wavy lines of the mark in your second photo. Is this a reflection in the glaze or can you feel it if you run your fingernail over it? It may be an intentional 'scratch' through the mark ... which is how the factory marks their 'seconds'. Those I've run across are still very good quality, but if this is going to be for sale it should be mentioned.

    Quirkygirl,

Thank you for pointing that out. I not only did not see it but was unaware that Royal Copenhagen did this. There are two defects that I found and mentioned in my listing.
    I will correct my listing.

    Hi,
When I first went to Denmark in the 60s I went to the RC factory. I really wanted to buy these 3 ft tall covered urns. They were 1200 dollars each here in the states. I figured I could get them cheaper there. Saw them, almost paid 800 dollars each but then I found the "seconds" section. I bought the pair for 125 dollars!!! One had a tiny blue spot on the rim where someone accidently hit it with a tiny paint brush. The other had a flake on the bottom inside rim. I had them for years. I think I sold them for 500 dollars in 1998.

Great story Greg. This vase has small black mark under glaze and a pin hole indentation in the porcelain with glaze over it.
