Venus and Cupid painted in the late 16th – early 17thC by Alessandro Allori.

Pinted by the publisher Chardon Aine the dates of which are given online as 1830-60

Engraved by Ph (Philippe?) Trierre. The only reference I can find is this (to a print dated to 1882):

So I would guess your print dates close to 1860.

If the plate was taken directly from the painting (or some copy of it), then the image would be correct on the engraved plate, but a printed image taken from that plate would be reversed.

I'm not sure what is printed above the title. It almost looks like Donne par c Bardi, which I would take to mean donated by Bardi, but that may be totally incorrect.

Thanks for all the info. sorry about the blurry pictures! The center writing says Dessine par Bord. I will try to take better pictures some time today but I think you you have already solved it. So you think the center writing is a donated by? Thanks!!!

Or maybe the center says Dessine par Boret?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Dessine par would be "drawn by" according to online translation. I do not know much French.

Maybe that suggests that someone named Bord did a drawing from the painting, and it was that drawing that Trierre referred to when making the engraving.

Thanks both of you for your help!! Not seeing any artist by the name Bord or Boret. So how do you determine what the value of something like this is? We know for sure it was made around 1860. Thanks

Since the original painting was by Alessandro Allori, and the engraving was posthumous, you may try to search sales of other posthumous prints based on his other works by other engravers..

According to this link the draughtsman was Antoine Borel:
    http://www.rcip-chin.gc.ca/bd-dl/artefacts-eng.jsp?emu=en.artefacts:/ws/human/user/www/Record&w=chinkey='MUCQ1993.35717.128'&currLang=English

The engraving was originally made for "La Galerie du Palais-Royal, gravée d'après les tableaux des différentes écoles qui la composent" published by J Couché in three volumes in 1786, but reprinted in the mid 19th century. The first publication had a great deal of engraved text on the lower part of the plate, which was clearly removed for the 19th century edition:

Thanks architrave!! Now that's a lot of information. I will have to get my laptop out and see if I can get that in English. And it's good to know who the draughtsman is and now that I look it is Borel. Thank you for all the time you put in this!!
