I've been after a silver snuffbox or pillbox for aaaaaages to store my peppermints in. After much, much, MUCH hunting over several years, I finally found one.

    It was labeled thusly:

    "Continental Silver. German. Ca. 1900".

I have no idea if any of that is true, except that it is marked '800' for continental silver.

As you can see, my mints have already moved in, and they love their new home! :)

Here are the only two hallmarks...

    "800"

...and what looks like a crown of some sort. I don't recognise it and haven't been able to I.D. it.

    Anyone have any ideas??

The half moon and crown is the German empire mark, the Reynolds angels are right for about 1900, so it is probably what you think it is

The puttis look happy to be holding mints instead of tobacco or "weight" back in the 60s. Nice little box.

Not bad for someone who's 30 in July, huh? :p

If I pack them in, the box holds about 27 or 30.

If I just toss them in higgledy piggledy, the box holds about 25. Which is a surprisingly large amount, considering how small it is!

And if you are anything like I am, you PACK them in each time, counting them as you do, and then stress over the odd TWO left over from the packet........................knowing that you could eat the leftovers or even toss them, just to even things out, but DAMN - IT'S NOT PERFECT - I HAVE TWO LEFTOVER..........:bigtears::bigtears::mad::mad:
