Nope, poesy as in the old Norman word for poetry. :)

Well... whoever had it was likely in a tight spot when it turned up missing.

That’s because you could spend 5 lifetimes detecting and never find anything 1/10th as cool. Odds are you wouldn’t. Combination of good research and luck, plus a little skill. Mostly luck!

    Love it!

LOL, I almost did this a couple years ago! One of the guys from the TV show "Mud Men" (originally on the History Channel in the USA, but now seen for free on YouTube) does mudlarking tours on the Thames foreshore. Only reason the idea fell through was that the tide was not going to cooperate during the few days I was in London.

Learned something new today, thanks! (I had always thought they were posey rings.)

Me, too! I often browse them online but they're just not, and never will be, within my budget.

WOW thats a good find, my boy has a metal detector but all we found was a bunch of old burnt bed springs so if someone finds something very old would museums take them or would the finder legally own it??

I've just been on the phone with my cousin and mentioned about what happened to this ring from March 2016.

The Treasure comittee said he could keep it.

He sent it to auction and got £850 for it which was a bit less than he thought he would get.

After auction fees he split the rest with the farmer whose land it was from, so they got £400 each.

What a great surprise! I loved the saying in your cousin's ring, especially loved it because it wasn't in English and could not be easily discerned!
