Really nice finds everyone! A great way to start off the year. :singing::singing:

Marko, that mean-o thrift lady reminds me of the only thrift I won't ever go back to. It is a smaller one, specifically for the homeless - the store has folks always using vouchers and rarely actual shoppers, it is in a terrible location, so shoppers are important. The first time I went, I found a ton of vintage - I remember folks here helped me ID something. The second time, they told me they were starting to keep the vintage for themselves. On that trip, what was most frustrating, was I found a pair of marked gold and designer earrings with stones. They held these at the counter like normal and when I checked out, the manager decided to 'keep them for himself'. I didn't go back for a year I was so upset. When I did, I found a few vintage things they missed, including a Royal Bonn vase in this form I'll be listing soon for $30.00:

It was suggested I don't purchase it due to the cost. Which meant, they missed it on the upper, back corner and wanted it. Yeah, no. I went once more and it is awful now. It is the same thing I don't understand, if you build the store specifically to help the community and these vintage items bring in the sales, sell them, don't keep them. Sigh. Anyways... the doggie has to go the doctor and she hasn't learned to drive yet.

    HOLY CAT PUPPIES!!!!
They must have a some type of license as a charity and I'd report them to the appropriate entity for this.
I'd be shocked to find they weren't outright stealing donations and maybe $.

I agree with KOT. Anybody can open a "thrift shop", but you may need to investigate to see if they actually give anything to the charity they are supposedly supporting.

Here in SC you can go onto the website for the Secretary of the State & they will tell you what percentage the group uses for the charity. If they are not registered I would consider reporting their behavior to the proper authorities. JMHO

    Marko,
Thanks for the tip on the cake stand. It does work ;)

Found that the Royal Winton pot should have a slotted metal lid. I have a Gorham Sterling one that fits nicely but is a bit fancy compared to what the original looked like. Need to decide whether to pair them for sale or not. Not sure that most would appreciate the sterling lid or pay extra for it..... not to mention the increased risk of theft with it. Unfortunately, have to consider these things since I no longer keep a locked case in my booth. :(

Think I just answered my own question.

    :) Brad.

We had a church thrift shop and they a "shady" person to help them, never found a treasure there again. And they closed down.....

We do have hospital thrifts here who have honest people help them out....they do try to ebay things, and they are very on things, but I do still find stuff there, on occasion, especially summer when volume is high on clean outs.

I was smashing up 5 double wardrobes ready for going to the tip today when I found these in the overhead cupboards, don`t know how I missed them when searching the house, but they still ended up at my place so wouldn`t have gone astray.

I thought this was high relief carved wood when in fact it is made of fibre glass, 24 inches across.

Happy Wednesday all! Thanks for your input regarding that particular charitable thrift. I was in the area today and had my day planned -- I had been hoping to stop in for the first time in over a year and see if things had changed, but when I get to the bottom of our hill, one of my two appts. called and it was the doctor HIMSELF asking stating HE had an emergency and asked if I could come in right away. So I made it to the various appoinments and drove another 20-minutes back to my most favorite thrift store in our State (kind-of in the area). If it had worked out as planned, I would have gone another half hour to the other one, but not this time. I've looked online some and folks seem to love and adore them. It is important that my 'pickin' needs not interfere if they are providing a service to people in the community. Their means to that end may not be correct, but it seems like they are helping many people.

I found some neat things today. My last shopping day this month. Next month I'll go to a different far away town in our State, all day, and can't wait. In March there is a BIG flea market. So some fun things are planned and hopefully treasures to be shown. With my record collection sold, we are looking at adding four more inventory shelves. I've got stuff ready to list all over and unpacked a box of inventory yesterday and promptly called my spouse and said 'when I die, don't you dare donate this crap (for you KOT), I have too much good stuff and you better at least sell it!'' :shy: It was the set of pretty L E Smith Blue Glass Horse Bookends that did me in. I'll look at them for a couple days before I list.

I didn't buy too much today and they are newer items. I don't know if folks like to see pictures of more modern stuff since this is a vintage forum, so I ended removing the one I was going to post. A nice Mikasa Cake Plate, two Vietri Chargers and nice set of Block dinnerware - a 50 piece set for $30.00.

    Have a good week.

cxgirl - thanks... :joyful: Sorry for the rambling sometimes all. I am away from here for a day, two or three and it all comes out at once!

Quick pics taken on-top of a stand alone freezer, so not too pretty.

A Deruta Rooster plate, a Mikasa Cake Plate and Pimpernel mug, about $8. for all:

Two Vietri Chargers in this pattern, $6.00

$3.00 for this Frankoma piece. Will likely put in a 'lot' of Frankoma I'm putting together for more bang:

I have several different vintage baby/nursery planters I will list at the same time, possibly for combined shipping. This one one was $2.50:

    7 Harker Cock O'Morn plates for $3.00:

And this collection of Block Sleepy Hollow dinner (about 50 pieces). I have several of the out-of-stock items (bowls, sugar, several sizes of plates) and 8 or 9 dinner plates, so it was a good find for $30.00:

I went into two thrift and an antique store today. I generally go past the antique store since I've never found anything great. Today ...oops. I picked up a copper cuff that I swear was a Boy Scout craft project, a rhinestone necklace, and some spoons. The big one is coin silver and quite thin; I think it really was made from a coin. The little guys are probably demi-tasse and marked .830 among other marks I need to research. The necklace is Weiss. The surprise was that I thought it was a purple necklace, only to look at it tonight under fluorescent lighting and WHOOPS. Alexandrite glass rhinestone Weiss necklace. Total cost? $25. Thanks. The little spoons are Danish, but from a company that's been around forever. Broderne W&S Sorensen or one of the later reconfigurations of same.
