It looks like something we'd get at Mill Stores (unfinished furniture) and stain ourselves. We've had some pieces from there. Good stuff, but not expensive.

The front appears to be older than the innards.
I think it is a re-purposed wardrobe, not a kitchen cupboard.
Some cupboards were built in, so taking the shell out would leave the cupboard with no backing. Which may be why the innards look new.

You're not going to know if the front is newly stained until you go look at it. Can't tell from the pictures.

If it suits your purpose and is a price you don't mind paying. Then I say go for it, knowing that it probably is not all original.
Buying something new will cost 4-5 times that and be stapled particle board.

Yeah, the inside not having a patina look, its odd if it is old.
They havent contacted me back yet so...

I am leaning toward newer from an unfinished furniture line. However, that lock seems to have some age. Of course it could have been added. Hard to tell from these pics.

The "do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers" line is displayed automatically on every single Craigslist ad. It is part of the template intended to keep spam down or some kind of liability thing, who knows. Every ad has it and buyers make offers (more often than not) in my experience.

I have to say this piece looks newer, but maybe best to go in person to have a look.

Another thought. Seagoat if you are really interested in taking a look at this, and since you haven't heard back, make sure your Craigslist response is clear and easy for the seller to deal with. I am more familiar w/CL from the seller's end. Generic emails like, "I like it, when can I see it?" are often spam emails, phishing for email addresses. So as a seller, one typically ignores those. Maybe you did this already, but if not, write back, tell them where you are emailing from so they know you are a real person and include your phone number. The email that makes it easy for the seller, clearly not spam, often gets the response.

If the dimensions fit just what you are looking for, the only thing left is an in person evaluation to check.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Even if it were "hermetically sealed" for 140+ years, I'm not sure you could keep the inside looking THAT fresh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They emailed back today, I'm trying to schedule to go see it.

The lock and hinges do look older..
And the beveled edges, would somewhere take the time to do that nowa days?

Idk. I'll probably buy it either way if i can

While you are there you might ask, "What else you got from the 1868 farmhouse?"

I love reading your posts with the y'alls. My daughter lives in Georgia and when I visit her friends ask me to say certain words with my Boston area accent (which I don't think I have ;) )

So did you go see it?
Was it a mix of old and new?
    Did you buy it?

Im supposed to go look at it today. Unless it is press wood I'll probably buy it.

I asked if it was heavy heavy and they said no, not heavy heavy, just more awkward.

Pieces Ive had if similar size have always been heavy heavy

Not trying to justify the seller's actions, but having a lot of personal experience with sales on CraigsList, I know that my rule is "first on site with cash" takes it. So many prospective buyers never keep appointments, with no notice or explanation........and expect you to have "saved" the piece for them. I put the piece out there to SELL it - and I accept the moola from the first proffered hand.

I am NOT implying that you would have acted the same, but the seller usually has no way of knowing whether or not you are among the querds of this world...........
