My grandparents had (which they did call an engine) very similar, if not the exact same, as the one on the far right.........it was kept in the cloak room and it was one of the maid's jobs to empty and re-fill it once a week................as a kid I was fascinated with it and was only allowed to try the pump when she was emptying it.................once a week I got to play New York Fire Man!!!!! We pumped the water out the dining room window and I always tried to hit the glass roof of the conservatory....thanks for the memory jog!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I collect old reference books on china, glass and more, plus old catalogues. Love reading them and they sometimes have gems of lost information that modern references don't have. And the binding is rather fine on this one.

I'd have jumped on that too. Useful and nice to look at to boot.

I bought a junk jewelry lot for $13 a couple of months back. I found some pearls in it with 14k gold clasp - sold them for only about $35 because the pearls weren't top grade and had a bit of damage on a few of them.

This necklace I almost passed by in my sorting through the lot. 14k white gold open weave necklace. Sold for $175; I probably could have held out for more but I really needed the money at the time.

I also found some 14k gold earring backs and a few other items. Wish I could get junk lots like this every day!

Ok but there are two dolphins or some such that I see now but at first I had no clue.
    'putti'?

Just looked again - yes I see two dolphin noses now, although the rest of the bodies and tails look more "fantastical" than the real thing - that's why I said sea monsters.

Putti are cherubs with no wings.

You must not read much of the Pottery, Glass and Porcelain section. The term comes up regularly there.
