LOVELY painting !! pure innocence and wonder. I really question the minds of the folks who would find this lovely work to be 'inappropiate', I would display it with pride and joy, Very nice indeed ... Joy.

I wouldn't have thought this was a modern painting. From the style, I would have guessed late 19th or early 20thC, and looking at his other work I see a lot of the same stylistic sensibility.

In Canada, we had Paul Peel painting pictures (aliteration!) like the Little Shepherdess, 1892, and many others.

American George Bellows painted "42 Kids" in 1907.

Back in 1751, Francoise Boucher painted Mademoiselle O'Murphy who, according to Casanova, was 13 at the time.

These are paintings that are famous in their own right, but I wonder what the reaction would be if they were presented new today. (In truth, the Boucher in particular does come in for a fair deal of derision.)

People who analyze such things estimate that the model for the Venus de Milo was probably about 16.

Im curious, can some of our international boardies chime in on the subject? Is there such hysteria(for lack of a better word) on the subject over there?

Nude kids are not uncommon on European beaches. It's not a big deal.

When my kids were growing up in the early 70s it was not uncommon to see kids under the age of 4 on the beach like this. Nowadays, we've gone backwards. I'm sure there were always creeps around, but we weren't as worried about it. We've been taking high school basketball teams to Europe since 1980. There have been several instances in Scandinavia of unisex dressing rooms which freak out American kids which they don't understand because they grew up differently.

Back then if anyone so much as touched a child vaguely inappropriately it would be taken care of.

Hummmm....back then......we left vulnerable children in the charge of some adults...that we should have checked out more carefully......but we were unknowing of their savage intent......!

As most of you have surmised by now, I am seldom swayed by popular opinion, and put phooey into the faces of those that disapprove of most anything - but in the interests of keeping the gossip to a minimum, the LAST place I would hang this is in my bedroom..............

I admire this piece and would give it "place of honour" if it were (only!) mine..................

I wouldn't hang it anywhere in my house...
until it was reframed. It's a very nice painting. Don't let others turn an innocent, happy painting into something it was never meant to be.

I have two of his prints that I picked up at a yard sale in a box of frames.

I posted a pic of one of my grandkids asleep atop of one of the big dogs, on our sister site CoinTalk, the same as I did here and the US Mod banned it.

I had to change it to this.

Unfortunately Davey , that's the kind of pic that would attract a pedophile...IMO.

As for me....I'd see it as a fine art photo.....specially if it were in a big name exhibit !

I dislike the "political correctness" going on in many areas. Art is only one.
