Luger Buffet and matching dining room set?

    Hi, again!

I have a friend who was recently gifted this beautiful Luger Furniture buffet. We're trying to get an approximate value to decide whether or not to paint it or restore it (not much to do there, honestly).

About a week after, the people who gave her the buffet added the matching dining room table and chair set because she loved the buffet so much. Such generosity!

I don't have pictures of the table and chairs, sorry, but I do of the buffet.

I know Luger is well-made furniture, but I'm confused on the date. This one says 1857, but I thought they weren't formalized as a company until 1860ish. Is it a date marker or just an "established in ..." marker?

Any clue on the age/approximate value of the buffet? How about the dining room table and chairs (assuming they are in comparable good condition)?

Thank you so much! I appreciate your help!!

Michelle, there's a "contact us" link on this website:

While they won't give a value, they may be able to help you ID the buffet.

Oh, that is a good idea! That would definitely be a step in the right direction! I went to the site and saw that they won't give values, so I only read up on the history. Didn't think about getting the dates from them! Cool! Thank you!

1920-something is my guess, unless there are holes drilled for wheels that have been removed? (or have fallen off)

Ditto 1920s. Value is not that great for the buffet. Probably no more than $150.00 here in semi-rural Midwest at retail. Maybe more in larger metro areas. Less at auction or other wholesale venues. Good candidate for paint if it has damage. Always think it a shame to paint undamaged furniture since it is so difficult to undo. Value of the table and chairs will vary based on configuration, whether or not it has leaves, and number of chairs. Condition is also a factor.

Thank you! I don't believe there were wheels, but I can confirm that. :)

Okay! Super cool! I haven't inspected the piece personally, and my friend doesn't work with furniture (so wouldn't know), so I'm not sure what condition it's in. It seems to be pretty good in the picture, but, as you know, it's one of those things you really have to lay hands on to know.

Totally agree on your thoughts as far as painting goes. I love painting and breathing new life into a reproduction with loads of character, but won't touch something that has actual value. :)

She is a very colorful person, so we've been trying to decide if it would be disastrous to paint the set to match her beautiful personality. Loved your feedback, thank you so much, Brad!

I did follow through and contact Luger Furniture to get more information on the line and exact date of production, also. So, looking forward to that, but feel great about what you've said! Thanks!
