It might help to know what the motto is on the ribbon under the castle/fortress?

    Ok. :)
You can edit something in that you forgot even after you've posted for a certain amount of time...which seems to vary.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The First Batallion of the Northamptonshire Regiment also was in Burma during WW2. And the Northamptonshire Regiment also had a historical connection with Gibraltar.

I also notice that at least one of the photos you included is from India. (The Tombs, Golconda -- or Qutb Shahi Tombs:

I'm not sure how that is significant to your quest.

Hmm. So multiple units used this insignia. If the XII (12 in Roman numerals) is meaningful and can be found - would it be a subordinate "unit"? Not sure what the British military terminology is. I've been scanning through online articles about the Burma Campaign and have yet to find a "12th" reference.

Oh, good point about the XII. I had forgotten about that when searching.

In America, the castle motif relates to the Corps of Engineers, if that's any help.

I think the Northamptonshire Regiment is probably close to my thinking.

Would a link to Exeter be in the "cards"? The mark looks like the silver mark for Exeter, which is of course nowhere near Northamptonshire.

Northanptonshire Regiment, based at the Gibraltar Barracks, Northampton until 1939
The crown over XII would mean Kings 12th Battalion or regiment, it could have merged with another regiment after WWI and before WWII.
