    [IMG] Hi
Thanks for any help in advance. I found this item and am not sure if it is a kind of fish or just a stylized version instead.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think it is an ashtray or just a catch all dish.

Oh, goody, you got the photos worked out. ;)

Nice fish. Alas, I'm no help in identifying this fish by its scientific name, but the shape is identical to any number of fish I have caught, especially when pier fishing (meaning not deep-sea/deep-water fish).

Just curious, but if you are thinking it may be an ashtray or a catch-all dish, I'm presuming it has a concave side. What does that concave side look like?

    Thanks yourturn.
It does have a concave opposite side.
Let's see if I can make magic again and do the reverse side of this.

Wow, you have a fast learning curve for posting photos. (I was still struggling yesterday trying to post photos -- guess I gave up too easily.)

For some reason my eyes are not seeing the "decorated" side as being capable of "holding" anything. And, the "rounded" (tube-looking) portion of the tail looks closed on both sides of the fish, not like an "indented" piece where one could rest a cigar or cigarette.

Please tell me if I am totally off in what I "think" I am seeing.

You're right, Messilane. There is no "concave" side to behold, is there?

Messilane, do you think (as I do) that the "decorated" side is convex?

No, the decorative is concave, and you can see the rim on the convex side.
To me, it looks like the tail part would fit a cigar, if this is indeed an ashtray?

Thanks everyone, I got my concave and my convex mixed up. Oy!

Messaline, is correct in what she mentioned in the above post about the concave and convex. It is a shallow tray or dish.

On the tail part it might hold a cigarette or perhaps it is just a decorative indent instead. Not sure.
Maybe this item is just a catch all dish or just a decorative do-hickey to display? :)

Thanks so much everyone I really appreciate your input and help.

I think you may be right Greg. That is what I thought too, in addition to it maybe being able to hold onto some loose change if one didn't smoke.
