I bought this antique box today. The dealer said it was a candle box, and that is was very old. It has lots of metal hardware pieces, and some that don't have an apparent purpose. It has obviously been repaired. The front half of the top is a different kind of wood, and is beautifully ornate. The front half of the top opens. There is no apparent dovetailing, and it is held together by numerous nails and metal hardware. Does anyone have any idea of the date, or any other information? Sorry there is only one picture. If you need to see more, please let me know. I don't know much about this type of stuff, so any info you have is appreciated. Thanks!

It's funky looking, whatever it is. Someone obviously made it by hand, or someones did.

I'm getting dizzy looking at the photo:). If I'm looking at it from the angle I think I am, that appears to be similar to a snipe-bill hinge, which was used throughout the 17th century. Hope that helps!
