    Hi,
Would this be a mini teapot or some other use? It is small, 2 3/4"H to the rim of the pot, 4 1/2" diameter. Also, is there a term for the design of the spout? Makes me think of a bird head. Hallmarks are London 1900
    Any information appreciated.
    Thanks for looking.

Look up batchelor's tea set, or teapots.
I expect spinsters used them too.

How much water does it hold? Perhaps a "single cup" or "bachelor's pot?"

Bakers, I'm at work so will have to check the water amount when I get home, but from the measurements it is a bachelor teapot. I've never heard of them before, but now that I know what it is there are lots out there.
Thanks again for the information af!

I've never heard this term before.
What exactly is a Bachelor's teapot or tea set.

I tried googling and there are quite a few out there, but I can't find a definition or history of why it is called that.

It's a tea set for people who live alone and get no visitors. One cup of tea and that's it. Think Elenor Rigby.

From what I can find on-line it would be for one person. I hadn't heard of the term either.
Below is from an auction site

'A bachelor in a boarding house was not considered worthy of a full pot of tea, so this half pot size was brought instead. It became known as the Bachelor's Teapot'

Not really. To some, excellence comes as standard equipment. :)

I always thought they were "Hotel teapots" because when you ordered room service or in the hotel restaurant, you got a one serving pot. That might explain the initial - from a restaurant or hotel.

Hotels did ot tend to use sterling silver teapots, they'd be too easy to steal and cash in for more than a week's wages for catering staff.

I have 2 teapots, similar to Mansons, one small and one standard size. When I received them I was told that I should prepare very strong tea to serve from the small teapot while adding very hot water from the large teapot, to bring the tea in the cup to a suitable strength and warmth. Never seen it done, and never tried it.

Do you think this one is English?
If Japanese, would it still be called a Brown Betty?
