[Listen to Book! I'll get it placed and photographs soon, by next week I'd say, where's the fire? i just got it literally just inside front door![/QUOTE]

Oh, no, I agree with Kiko and I can't wait for the next post either! This is the most exciting thing I've enjoyed since our incarceration. I want to see it made into some sort of Antiques Mystery TV series.

It's going to be A LOT easier to explain to Kiko things like "breadboard ends" "mortise & tenon" joints, bla bla bla with photographs, TRUST ME! :sorry:
Thing is, chest is large & heavy, takes 2 strong men just to lift it. I didn't prepare a place for it in the house because i didn't know when coming due to virus dealio.
Add all that up, going to take a couple days to get this all squared away, what's the rush?:p:oops:

You guys need to get OUT more!:hilarious: I just finished planting 2 HUGE TREES, a dogwood & crepe myrtle,
GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND INTO THE YARD! There is work to be done, it's SPRING!:singing:
Just got back from the store, i got BATTERIES!
Thing is, where chest is now, i can't even turn it, nevermind position for pics PLUS, i gotta move other furniture BEFORE i can even place it and, there are STAIRS involved.
This chest is NOT a little thing nor is it a light thing, it's a massive heavy thing!

Yes, that's the important thing, it turned out to be a marvelous piece of late 18th century americana and, I STOLE IT! I could care less what the foofoo people say/think, afterall, they can't even tell poplar from pine when looking directly at it!

Well OK, i just developed a plan THIS MORNING! I'll check again 2 or 3 times over today/tomorrow and MAKE SURE it works. I want it in a place of prominence which means, the piece occupying that space now has gotta go somewhere else and so on. Then I'll need help manpower wise, that's the easy part.
The main thing on this type operation is, DON'T DO IT TWICE!

With all this foolishness on pics, i forgot to mention i found sash saw tool marks on a drawer bottom and, since the Bieber clan of joiners owned a water powered sawmill that operated a sash saw......
CASE CLOSED! This chest was built in Berks county PA at the Bieber joiner shop.

BOOM! (that was some antiques dealer who missed this one's head exploding.) JACK! POT!

Out of morbid curiosity, what would it have cost if idjuts hadn't been in charge and someone had correctly attributed it?

I'd guess 5-10k, somewhere in there, if paint was untouched 100k range. The foofoo people DO control that market. It's considered folk art.

Just black lighted chest to look at paint, the feet which are replaced and the lid is obviously not original paint. Thing is, most lids on painted chests of this age are little more than bare wood with sometimes a faint outline of decoration.
Understandable really as lids were used for everything from seats to butchering hogs, very few lids have much if any decoration left at all.
The feet on Bieber chests didn't do much better, those high dovetailed bracket feet just did not survive. I would guess in looking at sales/auction reports, over 90% of bieber chest feet are replaced. Only one chest i found claimed to have it's original feet and it stated, feet removed, repaired and re-installed on chest.
Fact is, if not for newer paint on my chest, i would have been elbowed aside by foofoo people in a NY min! So actually a blessing for me as i would have had NO CHANCE had folk art people cast their gaze on this chest.
