    So,

I've been doing some research on antique Hall Chairs. The research started with my attempt to identify what I've learned via a wonderful antiquers member is a Spanish Revival Hall Chair (1920's-1930's).

I've learned that historically Hall Chairs were used for strangers, or servants to await summoning into other areas of the house when called for.

This got me wondering if Hall Chairs or the traditional "Waiting Room" came about first? Could anyone offer any information on this?

I image that an anteroom was initially a function of convenience and, later, wealth. Once built, it would require some kind of furnishings. A simple chamber as buffer to the weather with a bench would have come before a formal room with fine furnishings.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

What an interesting study of function, form, and etymology. Evolution of culture and language is fascinating.
