    Greetings,

Another recent find. Operculum & MOP locket. Marks on the locket say 10k on Sterling. Chain says 12k on Silver.

I think the locket and chain could be a marriage since the marks are different. I was curious if anyone has seen this style of clasp before and if anyone could toss out a ballpark for the age?

The locket & chain remind me of the one my mother had from her youth, guessing from around 1940, when she was in her mid-teens. Think this one was gussied up during WWII or while servicemen were still deployed afterwards as a sweetheart gift. I have an operculum bracelet that uses war time British coins to support them & have seen another that used American coinage from the Philippines, US Navy emblems between each operculum & coin panel.

Your guess then is as good as mine.

Hollyblue said gold filled but what to make of the rest of the stamp then? The clasp is marked just as oddly. “12k” and “silver”. I suppose I could dig into it in a spot and find out what it’s composed of.

It has a center layer of silver rather than the usual base metal(copper/brass) that is used on gold filled metal. The mark on the locket is 1/20 10K on silver. It's like an Oreo cookie, gold on the outside and silver in the middle.
