Got this victrola from a friend who inherited it from her grandmother's estate. There is a screen like/decorative piece that I laid in front of the victrola in the photo with the side doors open, apparently this goes in the bottom opening of the cabinet.
Just looking for any info on its time and where it came from. Is there any value in it? I purchased the piece thinking I would make a bathroom vanity out of it. . . .unfortunately I just don't have the time, and we are about to move into our new home so I'm considering selling the pieces before I move. We are in Maryland (moving to Harford county this month, from the Eastern shore). Not trying to get rich off any piece I sell, but would like to be able to offer a fair deal to whomever may purchase it. They get a good deal and I get a good deal. I have a few friends interested in it but they're asking me what I'd like to get for it. . . I haven't a clue as to the value (if any?). Hoping someone here can help?

Victrola? Are you sure this is not a radio or TV cabinet missing the guts? (A Victrola is a hand crank phonograph. Is there one lurking in there somewhere?) Looks 40s-50s to me. If a non-converted radio/TV cabinet, the value is pretty minimal. It is the kind of thing I wouldn't pay over $20.00 for as a dealer and might even pass it by at that depending on how much work it needs. I am in the Midwest so you might do a bit better in your location but can't say not knowing your market.

Ha! That made me laugh! When I got this from a moving friend, she claimed it was a "victrola". . . . And that's a PERFECT example of why I am here :)
Because I have no clue about antique furniture. If in fact you are correct, it will be going out with this week's trash lol.
Thank you for your quick reply! And thanks from saving me from more embarrassment! Lol.

    Can you check out my other piece? I believe it's a sideboard. It's a seperate thread. . . .

    Is that a manufacturer's label?

If you are planning on having a garage sale, put it out at $35-40 and take the first offer.
This is one of those pieces someone might paint and re-purpose.

Not sure in your pic....but I found this door that opens and here is a label/plaque kind of thing I found inside! Maybe I should've posted these yesterday, but I just found them! It's got the dog next to the old player?

That is an (older) RCA Victor logo (Nipper the dog?) on the partial label. There was probably a phonograph on the slide. But Brad can confirm or deny as he most likely knows more that I do!

Ahhhhh, so maybe there "was" one in there? Lol. Yes, I'm looking forward to brads response and thank you for yours!

PS! I just posted an old (african?) Mask that belongs to my father in the "tribal" forum. I love the mask myself and have it hanging on my wall. Not sure why I feel any connection to it, but I do! Probably because I'm so close with my father, so I cherish anything from him ♡

Good for you Mansons for coming up with the dog's name! As others have said this was a cabinet that once held a Victor Victrola. The Victor Talking Machine Co. was founded in 1901. In 1929 RCA purchased the Victor Co. As your cabinet wasn't made for a crank on the side to wind up the phonograph dates it to probably the 1930s at the earliest to c1950 as Brad said. Once electric motors became profitable to install in phonographs, the cranks quickly disappeared. Today we think of the dog being the logo for RCA, but in reality I believe it started with Victor Victrola.

Oh, THAT was easy. I remember when Nipper was common...........though NOT his inception. Some things did happen BEFORE I was born...............

Yes, this confirms this was an RCA Victor record player cabinet. Probably had a radio in there with it based on the size but possibly not. Victrola was the patent name for a brand of hand crank record players (The Victor talking machine). It has become synonymous with all such players much as Kleenex is synonymous with tissues.

I have not heard the term Victrola used in conjunction with electric players such as yours undoubtedly was. The brand became RCA Victor. With the continued use of Nipper and the talking machine as their logo, I can see how someone might think this was a Victrola cabinet. As an aside, the logo is supposed to portray Nipper paying attention to "His Master's Voice" and was the company slogan used in conjunction with advertising for many years.

Great information! You really know your stuff! So, your opinion of the value (or lack thereof lol) remains the same, correct? Just checking if I should load it on the truck for the next dump trip? Haha

Now that it is an RCA/Victor cabinet, you could bump the price higher.
Might try 65 and take 50 like the other.
Not quite as functional as the sideboard.

It is not worthless. It would be a good project piece for someone. These often get converted into bar cabinets since the drop-front makes for a good work surface. It is the kind of thing someone would pay $20.00 or so for. Didn't you say one of your friends was interested?

Also, in my neck of the woods, if this were set on the curb with a free sign on it, it would be gone pretty quickly. We also have freecycle which is an on-line posting service for free stuff. It is very active here and free stuff does not last long. You may have it in your area as well. This way, you would not need to pay disposal fees on it.

I think we were typing at about the same time..... I would agree with you on price if there were at a selling venue such as flea market or on craig's list. As an individual trying to move something quickly, she may need to set her sights a bit lower. I know that I would probably need to wait awhile to find a buyer at $50.00 on this. Other locations might be better.
