Not antique but was hoping to get some input anyway. This is pottery with the music part attached to the back with cardboard.
Seems like an easy fix but i was thinking of replacing the cardboard with wood. Or just glue it back the way it was originally. The cardboard flexes a lot so I was thinking the wood would be better.
    Any thoughts.

Aesthetically, it would look nicer if you replaced it was anything that was not damaged  If you think it would negatively affect the value or authenticity of the piece, then I guess you should work with what you have? (replace it...)

I’m assuming the ring for key does not come off. To put a new board, you would have to have a slit or larger hole. Just something to consider in deciding.

The key unscrews. so if I go with wood all I have to do is drill the same holes.

    Sweet! :)
Might be a good project, pretty much your decision. Most people suggest leaving original if selling, but in this case, seems like a big improvement.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

What song does it play? I was just looking online and found other music boxes with a bust of Brahms, but not this one.

The tag on the bottom says Hungarian Dance.

I guess if you're keeping it, do whatever makes you happy. If you're selling it, the value may not be enough to matter.

true. Sankyo and other Asian companies are not worth it. must be a Reuge at least to spend a cent on it.
