Hi Folks...newbie here and just sort of acting as a helper to my wife lol We were checking out an antique store and my wife came up to me and said she saw a Roseville vase ( at least I think it is a vase) that she thought was worth more then it was priced at. Any thoughts on the attached picture of the vase? Thanks! We check this place out form time to time and think it has some good buys. CAM00236.jpg CAM00238.jpg

Looks like a Roseville Poinsettia vase & the bottom looks like it is the real deal.

However, be aware that the Roseville market is very depressed right now & I don't know if it will ever come back. Reproductions out of China killed this type of item.

Brad - did you look at the bid history or the feedback from this seller? :jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:

From the looks of it there was only one bidder & there does not appear as if there was a reserve.:confused::confused:

Also I wouldn't buy from this seller on a bet. Their FB number is 363 & they have 50 negatives & 20 neutrals.:eek::eek::eek: The comments from the negs pretty much tell the story.

    Believe this is Roseville Clematis.

Guess I had better stick to ID'ing glass & perfume bottles.:oops::oops::shame::shame::shame::sorry::sorry::sorry::p

I think the way the bid is recorded is due to it being a live auction. Only the ebay bidder is reported. As for the negative feedbacks, again, it has a lot to do with this being a live auction and not a dedicated ebay seller. People seemed unaware of this and are surprised by the high shipping via a third party, buyer's premium (though I don't see where they state one), starting at opening bid, etc. People really need to do due diligence to know what they are getting in to.

I have never participated in one of eBay's live auctions so I wasn't aware that is how the bid was recorded.

I agree with you about buyers not being aware of the BP & shipping costs. This is something all buyers should investigate before bidding. The one that stuck out to me is the one who refused to ship because the bid was not high enough.

As noted above this is a price of Roseville Clematis. It was a later line introduced by Roseville in 1944 and came in brown, blue, and green colors and is fairly commonly seen. As mentioned above the art pottery market is very weak currently and prices are down substantially (50%+) from the 2006 peak. The piece you have pictured appears authentic but make sure that there are no condition issues.

I can see why it's still sitting there, IMHO, not a very good example. Some Roseville pottery is just not that attractive. I would leave it there. BWDIK?

I agree. Clemantis isn't a rare line (one of the most common actually) and not the most attractive. It would have to be bargain priced for me --- Out of curiosity what is the antique mall asking for it?

The antique place where I saw this was asking $150 ( see picture above)
The antique place where I saw the item pictured above was asking 150

I'd pass at that price. Although 12 inch vases are far less common than smaller pieces the price is still too high. $80-90 is probably the going rate right now if it is in perfect condition. Check out eBay, there is a lot of Roseville selling for dirt cheap. Hope this helps ......
