could anyone help me with this? I tried to search Flieger Kohl but really didn't find anything that is what it appears to say across the front of his cap. I have no idea of age, photos are definitely far out of my range of expertise. Thank you! oh it is about 8x10. Thank you for any help!! photo.jpg

It's a ship. Probably not navy.

May be a connection to German naval air.

Using the German to English translation.
It translates as Flying Cabbage. Certainly that can't be right?

Google translator translates Flieger Kohl as "Aviator Carbon;" however, translating the words separately, Flieger = aviator and Kohl is cabbage as Pat got.

Hermann Köhl was a German aviation pioneer, not sure if this kinder hut has anything to do with him.

Flieger Kohl probably refers to a person for Kohl is a German surname. Possibly the boy's father was an aviator. One of the past chancellors of Germany was Helmut Kohl who served as West Gernany's chancellor from 1982-1990 and of Germany from 1990-1998.

Edit: anundver... beat me to the idea of an actual aviator.

Flying Cabbage would be Fliegende Kohl, sorry.

I do like it as a ships name though.

Here is information about Hermann Kohl, the German Charles Lindbergh. Your photograph looks 1930s.

I think by the 40s it would say Heil Hitler, not have an English style sailor suit and not have what I think I can see as German pre Nazi crossed flags.h

The late 20s, time of the transatlantic flight seems more probable, by 1940 that little lad may have been shot down into some Kentish bog where his body remains to this day.

Oh, heavens, AF, that is gruesome - but I have to admit, the very first thing I thought when I saw the photo was, "I wonder if that sweet child made it thru the war." Somehow, and I'm not sure why, I had a feeling that he didn't.
