I realize this will likely be impossible to ID, but.....
This brooch has several different areas marked & the only one I can make out looks like 585 or 5R5. I tested just the outer frame of this brooch and it is not gold. But now I wonder if some of the other parts are gold, and perhaps I should try a few more tests? The diamond is not real either.
I know the marks are very hard to see, but I've seen some of you pull some miracles, with less to work with;), so here's hoping, LOL.:) Thanks for your time.
    Measures about 1 13/16" long.

Update, I just tested some other parts of it, and just the 2 little cross looking things on the top are testing as 14K. The rest may be sterling with an overlay that is wearing off in areas.

Hi Tyeldom, I'm sorry I cannot help you with the marks but it's a beautiful pin and very substantial. Appears to have a good bit of honest age to it too, yet still is in lovely condition.

Your avatar picture of the cat is hilarious! :cat:

Hi antidiem and thanks so much!:):cat:
Thanks komokwa, I know it's rather strange to have all these marks and only a little bit of gold, huh....definitely scratching my head with this one!
I've looked under pretty high magnification and still can't make out much, unfortunately.
    Thanks!:cat:

One of those marks looks to be Arabic script.

The 585 is a 14 K gold purity mark on the pin.......suggesting that the whole work is 14 K !

At least that's what I'd expect for any other brooch I'd see that on......but from your pics that gold may just be the pin assembly.

Thanks obb I'm glad you said that. I was wondering about that area. It's so different than the others. I wasn't even sure if it was a real marking or not.
I think I'm gonna look for one of those high magnification camera things on eBay. I remember seeing someone on this site got one and they seem to work pretty good. Maybe that will help.... Gonna go look now.
    Thanks again:)

it looks like everything is gold except for the 3 bar backing.....which could be white gold.......r u sure the stone isn't real ??

Thanks komokwa that's what I thought at first but the pin is not gold either. I tested it too and it shows silver metal underneath which is testing positive for sterling, but my sterling testing skills are not trustworthy so I can't be positive about that.
There are 7 marks on this brooch.... Is that odd? Or is that common on certain items from different countries?
    Thanks everyone:)

USB microscope. I've used one, and they're decent. Some countries do indeed use multiple marks.

Thanks, Yes I'm pretty sure it's not real. My diamond tester says no. :(

Well , I've loosed my bolt ....& have no reasonable explanation for it's markings, but the more I look at it I think it was cobbled together from random pieces...

    Maybe ?

I just purchased one of those usb microscope cameras, but will probably be a week before I get it, and I will update with (hopefully) some new great pics!

I'm liking this pin also...nice design. Which USB scope did you get? There seem to be many to choose from except to rule out the super expensive ones!

Hi wenna and thanks! :) I got this cheap one...

After a quick bit of research it seems like it will do a decent job. I hope! Just hope I can figure out how to work it without too much trouble.

Thanks for the link; it looks like a popular one (848 sold). That bodes well anyway!

The USB microscope arrived and I've played around with it for almost an hour, and having a hard time using it properly. But anyway, here are a few of the marks, none of which are focused very clearly, so still mostly unreadable. I can make out the 585, which I already knew, and now I see the number 800 I think, but the rest are illegible....sigh.
So maybe figuring out where they might have used 800 silver & 14K together in a piece of jewelry...or could that be common in many places?
    Thanks everyone

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

It's not the microscope's fault!!! The pics are great!!! It's what on the jewelry that's pretty much 'gobbleydygook'!!!!! You did just FINE!!!!!!! My microscope is either the same or very similar!! They're VERY sensitive!!!
