Hello, I'm new to this forum and excited to be here. I'm hoping someone can help identify this little table/cabinet. I picked it up several years ago at an antique store. Thank you! [IMG][IMG]

Also, I'm not sure if it helps, but the three little "round" shapes on the inside of the lifted top are rounded nubs which are about an inch tall and 3/4" diameter.

    Two thoughts come to mind
One for jewelry, the three pegs would hold rings.
Or sewing and the pegs hold thimbles.

    Handles look MCM 1940s-50s.

Does this open? There may be a lock on the roof of the drawer underneath

    Thanks for your response!
The pegs seem a bit big and short for rings. I didn't think about thimbles though, hmmmm
No, that doesn't open, it's just the front of the top part, just in front of where the pegs are.
Hopefully I'll get some more input!
    Thank you again [emoji1303]

Bit of a puzzler here. I might have thought for a turntable, music box, or the like but there doesn't seem to be any holes for wires, cranks, or such..... right? The nubs don't make much sense either. Are they wood, rubber, or ??? You occasionally see vanities/jewelry cases that open like this but they have mirrors in the top. Any evidence of one being removed? Styling says mid 20th century. Your user name suggests you might be Norwegian. Is this the case? Otherwise, what is the origin of this piece?

Edit: I wrote the above last night but apparently didn't post it ....

You're correct, there are no holes for a crank. The inside dimensions of the top are too small for a turntable. The nubs are wood, and I've not seen any evidence of a mirror on the inside top, although I'll have to look again when I get home tonight. My ancestry is Norwegian yes, but I bought this at an antique store so I've no idea the origin.
I've had this for about 5+ years. I'd be happy to take more/better pics if you think it would help.
    Thank you for your input!!

This looks like it might be a sewing cabinet. I have one sort of like this. The top lifts up (I put thread there...the nubby things could be for thimbles as suggested). It also has 2 drawers as this one does.

I think approximate dimensions are fine. You mentioned too small for a turntable so maybe 18" across and 12" deep? No more than 30" tall? I am also coming to the conclusion that this is a sewing cabinet. With that domed top, it may be missing an insert, otherwise, there is not much purpose for it to be made this way.

That sounds about right. I'm just curious why the top part is so deep. Also, seems odd that they would have a "special" place for three thimbles, but nothing else seems to makes sense [emoji16]

Sewing box is probably it. I'd be more likely to put thread spools on the nubs rather than thimbles.

I thought about spools too, but the nubs are way too big for the hole on the spool.

They could also have been for bobbins, which would make even better sense. Bobbin holes are much wider, at least the standard Singer ones are.

I took a few more pictures and measurements.
    Height: 24" x 16" x 11".
You can see that the nubs on the inside are too big for any spool or bobbin I know of, (but maybe they used to have MUCH larger holes?)
I also found a mark on the slide bracket: Made in USA and then something above it, I can't read it. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Stanley is the hardware maker only. The nubs look like they could be for the larger cone type spools of thread.
