Not so much copies, as there are many other types of ceramic seashells. Just wasn't sure if what you were seeing was Van Briggle.

There are ceramic seashells all over the place; they turn up in thrifts on a regular basis. Chinese, craft projects, Japanese, even Lennox. I've never seen one with a Van Briggle mark.

Nice piece anund! I thought a boy too - is it possible to say M or F going by the facial tattoos?

Thanks, probably the best painting I've found since the O.C. Seltzer painting a few years ago.
I don't know enough about the Inuit but since you asked about the facial tattoos, I searched google and it seems only the women have them?

Wondering if this was done from a photograph. That draped back-drop seems a bit strange otherwise.

    Hey Bear,
I took the vessel to Hemswell at the weekend and two people on separate occassions (both retired ships cooks) said it was a ships egg coddler.
Boiling water was poured in between the aluminium casing and the ceramic bowl.
It hung from the ceiling in the the galley on trawlers so it didn`t spill with the roll of the ship.

    Who knew :D

Well, well! That does make sense with those handle holes. Neat.

Found an old cribbage board; nice wood inlays. I had to get replacement pegs from Rockler, and I made a replacement cover for the peg compartment. I was thinking of giving it to my Dad, who plays cribbage....but I might just keep it myself.
