ok so I managed to get the wash stand and vanity out of our flip, thank heaven for strong little brothers! They are definitely in rough, at best, condition. No indication of maker, although on one of the marble slides from the vanity it has 1832 chiseled in. The vanity does not have the mirror, the wash stand has a crack through the back splash portion. So since they are not in great shape, would it be wrong to repurpose these? The wash stand would stay pretty true to form in color, but my mother in law would like the vanity painted. Or is this something worth having restored? image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Your wash stand is circa 1860 I should think. Obviously missing feet and with that damage at the back lower left needs some work. The crack in the marble is typical and I don't think people mind all that much if the price is right.

Your other piece is a dresser, missing mirror (Not a vanity). Circa 1870 and Renaissance Revival in style. The pulls are not correct and I can't tell if you have the missing drawers and all the top pieces. With the veneer damage and missing mirror, I don't think this would be too horrible to paint. It is a more common piece than the other one. However, I always hate to paint good old walnut antique pieces. There may be a time when it may be worth having with a natural wood finish.

Thanks verybrad! I do have all the drawers, had just taken them out for transport. Good to know that's a dresser lol, I am really clueless when it comes to these things.

I guess I'm really torn on what to do with these. I do have a spot for the wash stand, and think most of the issues could be decoratively hidden. Not having a clue to the value of these things, and apparently not even knowing what they are makes it difficult to make a decision LOL!

Also, would the marble on the dresser having the 1832, is that just when the marble was likely cut?

No, more like a model number.
You may find a corresponding number on the wood somewhere.

I will be venturing into the HOT garage to scrub these down shortly so maybe I will come back with some info! Thank you both for your input!

So I started with the washstand cleaning it up, it kind of makes me sad people don't take better care of their things! The only thing I noticed on it was on the back of the drawer there appeared to be a letter. Could be scribble scrabble for all I know! image.jpeg
