Awesome! Clearly a talented, artsy guy. Any idea who the photographer was?

His last name is Willson. His wife's name is Netta. Their daughter Cleo married Sanger Greene. Cleo and Sanger were the parents of Wayne Greene, creator of BYTE Magazine, among other things. I'm still slowly trying to figure out all the relationships.

Any more "transportation" shots like the Jenny or the car?
    LOVE 'em.
AND I like the gentleman's coat in the last shot...I'd wear that.

There are more transportation shots, and a freight train wreck. You've seen most of the ones I've managed to scan so far between time spent doing other things, but I did get a general idea of what I have by holding them up to the light when I first got them.
My favorites so far are the one of the girl climbing the steel structure and the one of the parents. I love how he's tipping his hat.

Aren't these interesting! The clarity is wonderful. Thank you for sharing them. I wonder if that number, 4492, on the "Jenny" is all of the number. Also wonder if that "Jenny" is a military one or used in those "flying circuses." Following is a website that has US Army & USAF serial numbers that includes Curtiss "Jenny" serial numbers:

"The following is a list of serial numbers for US Army and USAF aircraft. It is incomplete, with numerous gaps--especially in later years. If I know the final disposition of a particular aircraft, or if the aircraft has some special historical significance, this information is listed here too. "

Here is the page for "1908-1921 USASC-USAAS Serial Numbers." There are these following serial numbers:

"Curtiss JN-4D Built by US Aircraft Corporation...
39896 to civil registry as NC4492"

    "Curtiss JN-6HG-1
    ... 44924 ... 44929
    converted to JN-4H.
    34 delivered to US Navy"

"...44925 (135 OS) w/o in takeoff accident at Linden, AL Nov 30, 1922..."

I'm sure you are enjoying going through them, I know I would. I love the guy with all the weapons too....isn't he cool??!! Was he ID'd? He seems like a real character, LOL:happy::cat::chicken::cigar:

Susan - apparently that one guy is standing in front of the last number! :nailbiting::woot: Thanks for the links - I will check them out later.

Tyledom - he wasn't ID'd in this photo but I hope he shows up in another one and maybe he will be!

    Thanks greg!

It's very tempting just to sit and scan negatives all day but unfortunately I bought the contents of a garage yesterday and officially pushed my house over the cliff into a ravine of unorganized chaos. Shouldn't even be here now, but who's going to stop me? I have terrible will power. :dead:

Does any one else think that armed fellow's facial hair looks fake? Could just be me, but there's something about it that doesn't look "right."

Yes Bakers, his or her beard is "off kilter" lol.

Thank you for showing these, Book. Interesting history, perhaps the family would like to buy it back?

Hah hah! I don't think it's Netta, but I do have some nudes of her.

Great find! These seem much better than the usual bunch of photos one usually finds. I think you should do well with them. Be careful about how involved you get with these unless you really want to. I am sure it would be easy to become obsessed with these.

My brother in law found hundreds of glass slides from the Colorado photographer William Hook that led him to a life-long project that revived interest in Hook and culminated in a PBS documentary about him.

Hi Brad. That's really great about your brother.
This is exactly the kind of thing I like to do. Fun, fun, fun!

The while thing looks fake -- the facial hair, the pose, and so on. The background looks wrong for the outfit. It all looks to me like someone having a lot of fun with costumes and props (including the pipe). I like it a lot, but I think it's a gag.

All these are great, and I'd love to see more!

Okay. Samuel Tully Willson (wife Annetta Blair) is your man. But guess what - he apparently did his photography as a hobby not his occupation. In 1900 he was a foreman at a buggy works in Columbus OH (where Cleo, their only child, had been born in 1899.) By 1910 the family moved to Brooklyn NY where he was a manager for a firm building gas appliance equipment. Ditto in 1920. By 1930, still in Brooklyn, he was retired.
