Question: How did you know who you were bidding against? I thought that eBay hides this sort of thing now. So, what is your secret???
Never noticed that... I know the letters they show when you click on the bid list are not accurate to what the actual user names are. I have looked up things that friends were bidding on, and knew the person's user name, and the letters being shown were not in the name. So, where are these partial addresses located???
Also, I sometimes message cork sellers asking if they will pick out the bird corks and post them. Some do. I just paid 29 dollars for a nice batch!
I edited to 'screen names' earlier but you should be able to see them hitting the 'BIDS' button.... I think...
Thank you, OG (Old Guy, Original Gangster, Offered Goliath)... The bird arrived, along with your totally charmante note. I smiled and smiled. This is a synthetic cork with a novel trademark placement (and therefore an addition to the growing collection)! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoGila
Thank you, but the strings of letters and asterisks that show when you look at the bids were changed several years ago. They no longer have anything to do with the bidders' user names. EBay has done a lot in the past few years to hide things.
Even if that is done they don't change it for every bid do they? - I'll have to investigate this next time I bid.
No, they do not change it for every bid. I think the same masked identity is maintained for every time the user ID places a bid on anything. So if you happen to know a certain user's masked identity you can figure out who they were.
True, Ms. Fig... I actually keep some notes (someplace... where are they?) about ebayers of interest to me. Like that bird cork collector... I watch him like a hawk. I sniped him on that big 29 dollar bird cork haul... well, not sniped, exactly. It was a BIN and I snatched it. I hate to think how much we would have bid if it had been an auction. I'm pretty sure the seller had chatted with both of us about listing a batch of bird corks. Also pretty sure the bird cork guy is gunnin' for me now. I have some duplicate corks (around here someplace...) that I'm gonna list. I hope any rogue bird cork collectors out there will bid... then I'll know who they are!!!! Then I can see if they're friendly, and if not, stalk them anyway! If that Australian guy bids (and he WILL) I will make him pay bigtime for postage. All this drama over bird corks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah! I had not thought of selling an item you collect to flush out the identities of other collectors. Very strategic of you!
Thanks, Ms. FIG! It's intense intrigue and drama in the heady highstakes international bird cork world!!!!!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/282142973727?gotssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 It's on! I already got a private message (NOT from my Australian rival) from somebody who wants to know if I'll post the Canadian Red Tail Hawk separately... Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
