Does anyone like them? does anyone have any?

I'll post some better pictures if anyone is interested. They have no significant value but I think they are 'rather fun'

Don't have any. As a kid I was fascinated with them. Thought it was magic, lol, I also thought christmas lights were magic too. Now I just think the internet is magic. Tara

The first time I saw how it was really done, I remember thinking "Oh! That is so much easier. snort!".
I can't imagine doing that with the threads and stuff, so I still think it is magic. :D

We have an alcove full of antique ones at the Historical Society and my grandson loves them.

Soon, I promise. I have just spent 4 hours starting to sort this tub of coins. My back is complaining.

There is about 70 kilos or 10,000 coins.

None worth more than 10c. each. More or less.

Are they currently spendable? You have quite an accumulation that may add up to a lot!

I have a large jar into which I throw extra change. It fills slowly, but generally adds up to over $200 in coins when full.

Your ships in bottles look better than what I usually see, but how about a ship in a bottle in a fish... lamp?

Apart from a few decimal halfpennies (obsolete) there is nothing there later than 1967 when Britain went decimal, and about 10% are over 100 years old.

As for the fish, well. It's what you'd get if you asked a computer to design a lamp by selecting design elements at random.

Thank you! I do like the fish... but maybe only as an idea, not as something I would put on display. :)

That's the problem with a thing like that: everyone thinks it's cool; no one wants to put it on display. Not that I blame them. It's really kitsch. The old ships in bottles can be real artworks.

I gave that lamp away as a Christmas present, under circumstances where it was appropriate. It was certainly a conversation piece.

My first prized possession was a ship in a bottle that a friend of my dad's gave me when I was about 4 years old. It got lost when we moved a year later and I remember crying and throwing a fit about it. My dad went back to the house but didn't find it. That experience probably made me the hoarder/collector I am today ..... LOL! I picked up another one several years ago for nostalgic reasons. I know I have it stored away somewhere.
