Any idea what this is ?

Thought it might be a part of an old diamond or gold mining machine

The mining stuff I saw in Calif. wasn't made of wood like this. It doesn't look worn or as if it has been wet at all. I couldn't enlarge it for details. What material is under that screen stuff?

 

The galvanized metal looks worn to me.
Maybe it just wasn't used much?
I also suspect there was more to it because of how it's designed.

Yes!
It seems well worn. Not sure what that wood is but it was chosen to take abuse.

 

Looks like a cheese truckle.

 

I suppose if a pillow were put in one end one could use it as a bed but it may not be too comfortable. May have been a special bed for those who must smoke in bed, to protect them from self-immolation.

 

How big is the thing?

 

If it helps...I was assuming the hardware cloth was 1/4" based on the wire gauge of it so 14-16" wide maybe and those look like galvanized roofing nails which are about 3/8" diameter.

 

If it is indeed one of those rare anti-self-immolation beds, the metal ash-catching tray is missing from under the open-wire end. The original asbestos-covered headboard is also missing but probably just as well.

 

Better when those come with the optional timed sprinkler system so the clownfart doesn't hurt or kill anyone else and destroy the building as well.

 

It's small 230x170x50(H)mm

 

I'll stick with a cheese truckle then.
