I'm new to antiquing and feel so lucky to have found this forum--what a great source of knowledge!

I acquired this large mosaic--it is 20" tall by 40" wide--and I am looking for opinions regarding it's age and value. I bought it at a thrift store in the metro DC area. I am stumped because the blue and green glass pieces look newer than the broken shards. (Or maybe they're not...) I cleaned the tiles with a damp cloth--the discolored spots on the shards are part of the tiles, not dirt.

The mosaic is mounted on a board with three hangers because it is very heavy. It looks like the back of the mosaic itself is covered in some type of brittle paper--in the photo you can see a small rip. All feedback welcome--as I said I am new to this!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Hola, and welcome to the Forums. Plenty of brainiacs here who will take a look at your peacock. I suspect they MIGHT like a full shot of the reverse, and any hanging mechanisms.
My only contribution is that it strikes me as unusual in that it is a shaped outline as opposed to a peacock posed in the body of a square or round background.
    Very stylish.

Can't get more (early) 1960s than that.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Yeah, I could see that in a room with some cool butterfly chairs, some sleek Danish Modern stuff, maybe one of those space-age-y Raak lamps, and some Magical Mystey Tour on the h-fi. :)

    EDIT
In light of what Debora just said, make that music The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Gee, I was hoping it would be "old!"
For those of us who grew up in that time period, the 60's don't seem all that long ago...

I know teenagers who think 90s costume jewelry is Vintage and 80s is Really Old.:jawdrop::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Ha! So true...
I have to say I'm getting quite attached to it, even though it's not as old as I had hoped!
