I found this at the thrift store today - I've never seen anything like it.
It has handles or levers on each side that you can lock it close - maybe to steam the rice when making paella?

I don't know what it is but it would make a great popcorn maker.

Paella pans are flat so that the rice cooks evenly.

Hungry now. The best bit of paella is the crusty bit on the bottom. Yum.

    I've always preferred fideuà.

I'd agree on that, but then, I'm biased in favour of all things Catalan. As an aside, there's a Calcotada happening in London this week. The fools are suggesting drinking vermouth with it. That's just plain wrong.

Speaking of Yum (and paella), my first wife (mother of my 1st daughter Joy) was Cuban - and the only thing better than the paella her mom made was the roast pig they made for Christmas; our first Christmas together I went with the dad to a Cuban market here in Miami where he bought a fresh slaughtered young pig that we took back to his house - then he dug a hole in their back yard, filled it with burning coals & covered them with banana leaves, then they placed a whole young pig that had been marinated in the grandmother's secret citrus sauce on top of the leaves, covered the pig with more banana leaves & then buried it all - hours later (after lots of drinking & dancing) they dug up the pig - it was fall of the bone tender & the most delicious thing I've ever tasted!
I will always love my ex wife; she was the mother of my first child; but I miss that Christmas pig more than my ex!

I spent one Christmas in Palma. Christmas Eve dinner in the hotel was roast suckling pig. Divine.
