Dali's Discovery Of America Litho

I know that there are official editions after the painting but don't know if that is the case here. The litho is done on thick paper, about 35 1/2" x 24 1/4". The plate is 22 1/2" x 30.
Any idea if original or repro?

This rewriting of history has got to stop.

 

Looking close at the edges in your 5th pic it looks to be doubled. I see like a light is blue up against the edge. I would say repo in my opinion

Can you explain what a double edge means and how that makes it a repro.
Actually, they are all reproductions after the original painting. I cannot find a reliable source as to the type of editions, official/authorized or not, were they signed by Dali himself etc.

 

until you learn more , I'd say it's a signed numbered Dali print.....

I think rink28 is referring to the blue shadow above the darker blue. This could be indicative of a color registration error, the kind of thing that happens in mass market reproductions. I don't think that's the case here as a similar bit of that blue can be seen in the photo showing the number. If the color were mis-registered, it would have shifted equally throughout the picture.

The picture looks faded to me... most of the red has vanished.

 

I wondered about the muted red too. It has probably been on display in sunlit areas and without UV protection.

 

I see no evidence of fading or discoloration on the white border...as one would expect to find..

 

Why would you expect to find that? The blues are probably as strong as ever. It is red specifically that tends to be fugitive. I'm sure some inks are more permanent than others, but a lot of full color prints placed in sunlight will turn blue-green over time because the red is fading away. It can happen well before other signs of age develop.

You've never gone into a store and noticed how blue the promotional posters in the widows appear? They weren't that blue when they were put up, and they haven't been up such a very long time. It's the red that has bleached away.

The seller says 144/300 (no close-up picture of the numbering) but the COA states that the edition is limited to 990. The gallery "BELIEVES" this is Dali's signature. So, this paper means absolutely nothing.

 

The seller could of wrote that paper up himself saying all that stuff just to try and sell it. When a gallery says "believes" that should be a red flag. If a gallery isn't 100 percent sure if it is or not that there should say it all. I think it's a modern reproduction. That persin was most likely trying to pull a fast one and caught someone off guard
