Bronze Candelabras

    I recently acquired this pair of bronze candelabras. Would appreciate the benefit of your thoughts regarding age and origin. I assume French and antique.

    Pretty sure that gold over bronze technique is called ormolu - might help in a search to find similar. I agree on antique - and likely French - other than that - I couldn't say.

    Oh, and... - they're beautiful!

    You can just send the baby satyr one here, where he would have lots of friends. :)

    Think modern repros would not be bolted together that way, so I'm also in the antique & French camp. Little putti & satyrs/fauns like this are often described as being 'after Clodion', who made them a specialty.

    This is great info, bronwen. Thanks for educating me. $140 for the pair seemed reasonable to me. Not looking to make money but the price seemed reasonable for the aesthetic appeal.
