hello, i acquired this watercolor at a local thrift store. im having a tough time trying to make out who the artist is and also was wondering what era it could possibly be from? also on the back it has 3 old wooden panels for the backing of the picture. if anyone has any information im all ears! thank you for your time

    Hola, and welcome, Rink.
I can't identify it, just based on the painting, but there are people here who can go a long way towards dating paintings by looking at the hardware and frame (assuming it was the original stuff, of course) and a few people here are amazingly talented at deciphering signatures!
    So stay tuned.
    And... it's very pretty!

You need to rescue it from those boards. If you open it up, I think you will find the paper has turned brown, largely from contact with those boards. Even a piece of acid free paper as a buffer layer would be an improvement.

How about 'Jurston' as a last name? It is a real name. I first thought there was a letter after the 'n', but on second thought, it seems like a plant stem.

My idle guess on the date would be first decade or so of the 1900s

Thanks guys!! galeria what is the first name of that "jurston" name you mentioned? Thanks more of the other stuff. I'll have someone professionally take it out cause I don't want to damage it.

    Nice find.
I agree with More about replacing the back boards. I think I would put the time period a little bit earlier than the 1900 but not by much.

Selective cloning. I still can't read it, and I'm not certain there isn't stuff there that's not part of the siggy.

It is what's there. I copied small bits of the photo onto a white field.

Ok gila :) thanks guys for trying to make out signature! Unfortunately I still can't make it out even when more brought the sig out. Could it be the last four letters of the last name is "sbry" ?

Nice little painting. Not having much luck with the signature. Agree that this is likely late 19th century if the painting is original to the frame.

Perhaps the signature is in Cyrillic?

Dragonfly I'm not sure if it is or not. Should I email some pics to a gallery? Do you think they might be able to tell the signature is?
