About the resonance, one of my cats fell into a huge Chinese Martaban storage jar when she was little. Her wailing sound resonating in the jar was really eery. I looked inside the jar and saw two shiny discs staring up at me out of the darkness. Of course I rescued her immediately, but it was quite something.:hilarious:
All is well that ends well, she grew up to be a very happy, healthy cat.

Interesting Anecdote....Sorry I hate Cats...Only Labradors Dogs are my Friends....Mine wouldn't be able to go through into this 28 cm opening top hole..anyway...But if you knock the surface of this jar its sounds like if there was some metal mixture into it...Just waiting for some Connoisseurs and Lovers to give me Clues...!!! I don't know which Connoisseurs and Lovers you are waiting for besides us....
But since you have already written to the Princessehof (Friesland ;)) about the German/Belgian jugs, why not ask them about this beauty. Be sure to send them good, informative photos in good daylight though.

The Asian ceramics experts at Princessehof are world renowned experts on East Asian storage vessels. I have most of their publications on East Asian ceramics, including one on storage vessels, but they seem to have gone awol, so at the moment I can't help with specifics. Given the size (which I hadn't noticed before ) it is probably Chinese. Age is impossible to tell from photos taken in a dark room against a dark background, and no base.

The first book my East Asian ceramics teacher ever told me to get asap, was by Nanne Ottema, the founder of the Princessehof Museum (Friesland :playful:).
Friesland has a strong VOC connection, and it is said that ca 1900 every Frisian home had at least one piece of Wanli porcelain, hence Ottema's interest.

I don't critic anybody...I have not to all of you your knowledge...I am very pleased to chat on this forum and share my Hobby as a Collector of antiques....When I don't know I investigate as well on the web....I am almost sure those 2 glazes stoneware jars are Dutch....Because all items I have put on this site seems to have a relation with Dutch Colonial Period ...Please don't be offended...I am just having pleasure to investigate on those objects...Jck

Don't worry, Jacques, no harm done.:)
And we are very pleased you are here and sharing you beautiful items.

There are two people on the forum who go weak at the knees when they see SE Asian storage vessels, those are Silver Wolf and yours truly. At the moment Silver Wolf isn't here very much. I tagged him yesterday, but he hasn't 'surfaced' yet.
As for me, my memory isn't up to scratch at the moment, so I need my reference books etc. I recognize this beauty, and would probably have been able to tell you more a year ago, but not now.
Best to ask the good people at the Princessehof and make sure you take those photos.;)

Will you let us know what they say?
They could be, but I think the Rhine-Meuse option is more likely. The Dutch imported most of their stoneware from the west of Germany and from Raeren, so the Rhine-Meuse region.
European stoneware is not my forte, that is something Fid generally knows more about. He thought Raeren, Belgium, not far from Luik/Liège. Remember, Belgium was part of the Low Countries during the VOC period.
