USB microscopes are great for coins, jewelry, etc. I found some good stuff today, no pictures yet, but the best thing already had a home. He was a large friendly mackerel tabby, who likes nothing better than a good scratch. The family said he also loves to nail chipmunks.... I was severely tempted to borrow that cat.(LOL)

    Here are some recent finds.
All gold and sterling except the plastic bracelets.
    jfd1.JPG
Glass shades are not marked, and I can't tell if they are old or new. Heavy sterling gravy and underplate, Frank W. Smith.
    jfd2.JPG
Cast Iron dog doorstop. Bird dish I believe is Bitossi. I saw quite a few blue in my research, but only one other in green. May be a keeper, maybe not. Nice, heavy hammered copper dish with riveted brass ball feet.

    Ooo - nice stuff, DRG!

I LOVE that gravy bowl & underplate. (Not that I need another one... I must have 6 or 7 already, and after all, just how often do I actually serve gravy???)

drg642 - You may want to look at Weiss for the plastic bracelet with rhinestones. They did ones with ones with similar looking rhinestone design.

I thought I replied, but I guess it didn't process?

Anyway, Gila the bird is my favorite too. And thanks Peggy, the bracelet is just like one that Weiss did, but mine is unsigned.

Found some stuff today. The best thing was a furry king of his castle, i.e. a large friendly tomcat. King will probably think these were the best- mourning arm bands from the Spanish-American War. All three are for ships. The clue in the lot is the USS Maine. DSCF1814.JPG

Nice finds! The yards sales around here are all whacked out. There are facebook sites people advertise on, Craigslist (that has places from 1-150 miles, but not in order of nearness to me), and my favorite estate sellers have seem to have retired. I can't keep track of it.... I missed a yard sale two blocks away- they just put signs up. People aren't spending the money to advertise, and I have always found the best sales in the paper. I have been haunting my usual thrifts and consignment shops.....and antique malls...... not much happening right now. Will post some minor stuff I found soon. Meanwhile, I am trying to sort out what costume jewelry I can part with and sell it at a community yard sale in August.

Yard sales around here have gotten strange, too. Craigslist has pages and pages to sift through, but usually not very many in my area. There are so many fewer sales here than even just 1 or 2 year ago. I used to have 20 - 40 sales lined up for a Saturday in my area. Now I'm lucky to have 10 - 15. I wonder what people are doing with their stuff? I imagine some of the better stuff is finding its way online or to auctions, but what about all that usual household stuff? Where is that going? Trash, goodwill?

In the UK it isn't usual to have yard sales, I wish it was as I would enjoy them.
We have car boot fairs but it's a case of travelling to them, they're not usually local.
