But the real question is, what's the point in having a chin?

Adds humor to the lives of those with chins. They can find humor by joking about those who don't have chins like what Hawkeye and JD Hunnicutt (before him John McIntyre) did to "Ferret Face" Burns on MASH - Major Frank Burns, the weasel faced folk with no chin and small lips.

Seems this question has been up for debate since Adam with no definite answer. If you get bored with football games today, you might rummage through the following sites:

Per Wikipedia, "The chin developed as a point of muscular attachment facilitating minute movements of the lips associated with speech" and I'd guess in the elephant, it facilitated the fine motor control necessary in using the trunk.

Who would have thought that antiquers would teach me more about biology than I did in all 4 years of high school and 3 years to date of college...

Well. For about 2 years in high I had exactly 3 hairs on my chin. One was extremely long and was off centered; it curved to the side making it appear even more off centered. I was smart and shaved in time for prom.
These days, I finally hit puberty. But it'll take a second pubescence to fulfill my dream of becoming this guy:

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Technically called "micrognathia" - underdeveloped jaw....today they'd obviously fix that!

Prognathic jaw - my brother-in-law had it....had it fixed while he was in medical school!

And for many.....all has to do with proper mastication.......eating and swallowing.....something we all take for granted, love and enjoy!!!!!

Kasperscuriosities Two hundred years too late.

My husband had something similar. His mouth was too narrow. He had to wear this device that had to be cranked one turn every few days. He said his mom had a key for it and would sit on his shoulders to hold him down while she turned it. He would scream and fight. He still has a narrow bite. Sounded like torcher to me. Poor kid.

I never knew about elephants having chins. Lol.
