I suspect Asian import but I think it would look much better with the celadon glaze.
    What do you think?

    Hi,
I certainly agree. Strip off the white paint.

Good grief! Who thought that was a good idea?

    Go for it!

Either a)someone with no taste or b) someone with a damaged vase who figured ugly white paint was a better idea. We won't know until you take the ugly white paint off.

Got it. Will post pictures later on. By the way the interior is not glazed except the neck. Redish clay.
What's with that plastic bar code on the base?

I vote YES, too! This will be fun and interesting. :joyful:

The only red clay, giant hobnail pottery I know of is J.B. Owens. I've only seen it in matte green. I have no idea if Owens ever used crackled celadon.

I'm wondering the same thing. Is that the kind of chip device that has to be de-activated at the check out, so it won't set off an alarm when you walk out the door?

Modern Chinese. They would paint it and wrap it with twine if they thought it would sell better or do so for a specific client. Otherwise, someone repurposed this for shabby décor. I say strip away!

Yeah, I'm afraid you are right about being modern Chinese.
    Half way done.

If I've seen it like that I would probably not have bought it but I was too curious. Kind of interesting but too newish.
Those "hobnails" are likely supposed to resemble Buddha's hair curls.

OMG, you are right. I looked at a bunch of Buddha heads in Google images. That is exactly how they do the hair!

It looks better stripped. Myself, I love crazing, just not on nice dinnerware.
