What does the writing say? I'm really bad at understanding cursive writing.

I can just see there is writing there but if you used a photo editing program you might be able to boost the contrast enough to make it readable.

I think the third word from the first part of the writing says "guldfarve" which apparently means "gold coloured" in danish.

In the second part there is the word "og" which is also danish and means "and"

I have taken the liberty of editing (cropped, clarity, bright/contrast, and negative version) the writing in hopes it may be easier to read. I can't read it either way.

Thanks. Only, you forgot one of the 3 parts :D

The writing could be the information of the place where the frame was purchased, but that's just a guess.

I'd think framer's notes. Following guldfarve is what looks like "antik" (as in antique gold colored.)

Interesting. Did they use terminology like that to describe colours back in around 1890?
The frame is supposed to be at least that old.

Antiquities are not a new thing so a description like that in Victorian times is certainly possible. I would have said circa 1900 but 1890 could fit with that.

This doesn't strike me as a 19th C frame. IMHO

Not sufficiently ornate. Sure, they used simple frames back then... in which case this is insufficiently plain. This strikes me as the kind of frame used from the 1920s on.

    That is just an opinion.
