Nuffin! Yes this is my first time bidding in an online-only auction run by a regular auction house. Score zero for 6. Fine, I was kinda getting my feet wet, not really in love with any item, but bid on 6 items.

Two items I really didn't care about but could use, I put down the starting bid and never increased even after the "you were outbid, please bid a minimum of ...." Three more, I upped my bid after each outbid email a few times then decided if I was serious about a nice Naval ordnance ledger book, I'd better let those other three go, and did. I chased the book a good ways over the starting bid, ate lunch, came back to the 'puter to find bidding closed and myself the underbidder. Fine-saved me a good chunk of change. Plus I'm guessing a Museum group I know bought it, and if so I know I can just go there and ask to copy the ledger, I don't have to own it personally.

So much for my initiation into online-only auctions-I still prefer bidding on the phone or in person!

I've bought a few times from online real auction house auctions. The hardest part I found was having to contact someone and arrange my own shipping.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I bid on, and won, a little brass duck in Robin's last auction, and she personally hooked me up with easy shipping! It helps to know the boss-lady!

I had a blast... felt like a behind-the-scenes-billionaire bidding via my mouthpiece minion on million-dollar rarities, confident that the world-renowned Head Auctioneer, a personal associate, will ensure my anonymity and safe, secret transport of my purchases!

Strangest coincidence occurred in this auction, and I just found out at a gun club meeting last night. The friend who owns the small bronze cannon I'm researching in another thread-comes up to me and asks if I'm the one who outbid him for a certain naval ordnance ledger book! I said no, in fact I had bid on it but someone else won it and I was underbidder. So here we were, collectors in different mid-Atlantic states, bidding on one item in an online auction out of an auction house in the northeast. But we both lost it.
