Went to an antique/vintage mall and was not disappointed. There is something so much more satisfying in looking and touching things in person!

They looked like little opaque white stones and I only saw the colors once I got them home and light hit them at the right angle. The color of the metal is what made me pick them up to begin with. Looked like gold and at a few dimes worth the risk. These also came out of the “odds and ends” basket.

I wouldn't mess with the garnets; as a person of no holes I wear screwbacks for preference. I'd also get a good look at the puzzle ball under a loupe; that might not be bone. I scored a bit o'the other at a consignment store this winter. They knew what it was but couldn't say so. A friend in North Carolina is getting that one.

Got a few scores of my own today, but no pictures yet.

It's very favrile-esque but no - I wish! I do know who it is because it's marked - but I don't think the seller realized it because it wasn't mentioned in the listing...

I overspent on this. My mama was an actress and did much radio work, so I spent a great deal of time in BBC Studios as a child.

Well, quite - that was my reasoning too. And I did haggle! He wanted £110 and I got it down to £80. Now to find somewhere to PUT it.......

I have a permanent search on Fleabay for things connected to my mama and her grandfather. Both thespians.

Would we Brits know of her?

Agree. I randomly bought my mother an enamel hospital ward name sign from eBay from the hospital I knew she had worked at in the 50s. She was speechless when she opened the present as totally by chance it was the ward she worked on when she first qualified as a nurse. Amazing it survived and it was obviously meant to be!. It's only a piece of metal but she loves it as it brings back very happy memories for her.

Speaking of significant "signs" - for Christmas this year, DD stumbled upon a painting of the sign that hung outside a bakery my husband frequently took both children to when I worked on Saturdays. The bakery is no longer in business but she and DS talk about the place and the frosting roses they were given often. She purchased the painting and spent a ridiculous sum on having it matted and framed in time for ther family gathering. Needless to say, DS was blown away.

Here's most of the good stuff from the last two days. There's some sterling in here, and what I think is a D&E necklace. The pink bracelet is Links of London and the tigerseye is Lee Sands, still with tag. The black ones are Italian cased glass. There are set of six of those glasses; they're all hand-engraved. Harrington, I think; it was a custom shop in California. Dunno if it's still in operation. They were too cool to pass up. I want to get one under a blacklight and see what it does.
