Featured I'M REALLY NOT GOOD AT FIGURING THESE MARKS, BUT I KNOW OTHERS

here ARE VERY GOOD AT IT, and I need help in identifying, PRETTY PLEASE????!!!!! I just bought this past weekend the slightly smaller & more delicate Toast Rack that I really like & plan to keep!! It doesn't SAY sterling, but has other marks, and my title states my problem!!! I can see the other, heavier & slightly larger toast rack states that it is REGENT PLATE, GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS COMPANY. with an address. Based on ITS marking, I'm believing it's NOT silver, although looks very nice. The marks from the smaller one are shown in the first image.....THAT'S the ONE I'D like the help with, PLEASE???? AS ALWAYS, thank you SO MUCH!!!! (the smaller rack matches my small tea/coffee service perfectly!!!!)
OOPS, dimensions:.....just the smaller, the other (on the right) is only slighter larger, but to me NOT as pretty: Length-3 1/2" foot to foot; Width-a shy 2"; Height-3 3/4" bottom foot to include finger loop on top......

 

Yes UK sterling and I believe that's made in Birmingham 1909. Very pretty!

I was SO lost trying to figure out those marks!! Thank you @say_it_slowly...and all!!!! Found it in a consignment shop on the Cape...LOVE it when you’re NOT looking for something!!!! Now maybe I’ll try selling the other on the sell forum here!!!

I have had several toast racks. I always used them on my desk as letter holders. I did not entertain much for breakfast. As to dinner I used to go all out including 12 silverware pieces. I used to use 3 knives 4-6 forks and 3-5 spoons and specialty pieces. Forget about glassware 3 to 6 glasses at each place setting. Those were the days.

If you don’t mind posting how much did they ask? If it was a consignment shop vs. thrift store I assume then knew it was sterling and charged accordingly? Or no? I guess specific price isn’t important just wondering if they charged an appropriate price for its weight in silver or underpriced it?

 

@J Dagger, Don't mind at all, one of those shops where they don't haggle....price goes down after so many days.....I paid $28.....and was happy to find it!!! Oh and this was a usually Pricey consignment shop!!!

 

I'm just thinking, maybe.....if I have the sniffles someday and spend the day in bed, DH will bring me breakfast in bed with some lovely stollen in the toast rack on a tray with the little tea/coffee service????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELL, it COULD happen....................................

 

It sounds like a good buy to me! I keep a scale in my car at all times just in case. If its something I don’t intend to keep I like to know if I could at least sell something for a profit just for its weight if it doesn’t sell for its decorative or antique value. If you love it like this piece it really doesn’t matter. I would guess your toast rack has to weigh at least 2-3ozt so you did good either way and it’s a looker. I would imagine there’s lots of goodies on the Cape. Lots of pricey goodies but still. I would love to go to one of those estate sales at big Cape houses that have been in wealthy families for generations. In my mind a lot of real treasure resides out in those old summer houses of the old money lol.

I SO SELDOM buy anything anymore, but when I saw this rack, I knew it wasn't about to take up any room, ergo it became Mine!!!

 

I certainly do as well. I just imagine that house that has like four-five generations of fine things and they never threw any of it away. Just kept putting it in attics, basements, carriage houses, spare rooms. Each time you remove a generational layer you come upon the last generations. There’s so much room that there’s inevitably much more treasure. This is just my imagination and the Cape hosted some of the most wealthy of the wealthy families for generations. Plenty of great stuff at small houses but this is a specific Cape Cod fantasy. I haven’t actually been to one out there.
