    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

Found some stuff today at garage sale, bottles, a glass and pottery reference book, the clear Gordon's dry gin is from London England , the Corby's is 1948, and the little one is a beer from Drewery's and has 6 stars and a skeleton key on it . I haven't bought these chairs... yet!

Something about them is lovely but I'm not sure are they a good buy?
They are 1850-1870s biedermeier chairs. Obviously if I bought them, I'd re-upholster the seats with cognac-coloured leather like they would've been originally.

Are they worth 180$ + the leather and the effort?

I don't actually know the age of the chairs, but they were described as "old" so I assumed they'd be 1800s.
Actual 1850s country-style biedermeier chairs aren't terribly expensive when they are in bad paint so even though these are in good shape I assumed they would be old, haven't seen reproductions of this style before.

looks like all new-ish material to me 1970's. maybe they have been rebuilt, i see what might be old wood block stains in the corners

Could be, I didn't think about that. I had a similar black biedermeier chair that had its original upholstery (filled with horse hair) and that chair cost about 70$ so I assumed these would be old too just reupholstered and based on price it made sense.

my experience with chairs like this wasn't good, i was paid 2 for fixing a computer he wanted $ 40 each at the pawn shop, he had replaced angled wood blocks , used linseed oil to shine them up .and covered a board with old looking material ,and screwed it to the blocks , they fell apart after a few years

The photo album is brand new and I'll probably use it for my personal Navy photos so they are all in one place for my boys and grand-kids. :)
