3 Old Metal Dogs

I purchased these 3 old metal dogs today and I'm trying to figure out how old they are and what type of dogs they are among other things (perhaps some type of terrier?). I looked around and didn't find a match.

The dogs are made of solid cast metal and are very magnetic. The larger dog measures about 3 1/4" in length and about 2 1/4" in height and weighs a heavy 10+ ounces. The smaller dogs measure about 1 3/4" in length and about 1 3/8" in height. I don't see any legible maker marks or ID on them.

Does anyone know when these might have been made, who made them, where they were made, what type of dogs they are or anything else?

    Thanks!
    Kevin

    Scotties?
Very popular when FDR was president.

I could be wrong about this, but something about the even wear reminds me of modern pieces that are designed to look like antiques. Not to mislead, just made that way.

Wait to see if others have ideas. I could be mistaken, hard to tell from a photo.

Can't help with the breed of dog. I'm a cat person. :cat:

KingofThings, I was thinking of a Scottie but the ones I saw had pointed ears. The ears on these look more of the flop over type ears. They are not bent down from age, it's the way they were when they were made. Also, it's a little unusual to find a set of cast iron ones like this with the 2 puppies. I'm sure these would be pre WW2 and perhaps FDR era when they were made.

Lucille.b, even wear? Zoom in or enlarge the image of just the larger dog and look at the paint crazing, the high spots on the cast iron is where the crazed paint areas have come off of them. Also, the rust areas are pretty thick and or dense (body and bottoms of them), looks natural to me.

What I meant was, the way they are evenly worn over the whole surface, and comparing the three. That all three have a less worn dark nose, a less worn dark front paw, etc., see 3rd picture from end. I'd expect the wear to be more random.

Seems I've seen Scotties with floppy ears too. No?
    But now I think... Shar-pei.

Lucille.b, Ok, I'm confused, I think that all 3 have a *more* worn dark nose, *more* worn dark front paw, etc, which is what I would expect from old small heavy cast iron items with the old dried paint coming off the rusting base metal under the crazing paint on *high or elevated areas in the casting* which would be more exposed to surface wear or banging around. The discolored white paint would likely be from age and perhaps from the rusting of the iron it resides on.

I suspect all that can be generated in a short time but that doesn't mean these have been.

Sorry, meant to say, "more", its late. Just that the wear was similar on all three. Signing off.

KingofThings, could be Sharpei, although, the ears of a Sharpei look a little too small.

Lucille.b, I was thinking you must have meant that. Thanks for your thoughts.

The wear is suspicious too methinks.

Not Sharpais. Those dogs were not popular back in the 30s-40s.

    Terrier. Not necessarily Scottish.

I agree with Cheryl. Hubley did do a Sealyham with a red collar. Here is one of them.

Now Hubley usually marked their figures. One exception were full figure doorstops.

"Hubley did not mark their Full Figured (Features on both back and the front) Doorstops, because it would ruins the looks." On these they generally put markings "inside the hollow cavity" and later used foil labels.
