Similar to a car trunk or stagecoach trunk but not built to withstand weather well enough. I think circa 1920 travel trunk but not necessarily for long excursions. Styling is probably distinctive to a particular maker. Have seen these before but not a lot. Price seems too high.

This is my "America trunk!" Filled when I moved here in the 70s, came from grandparents when they fled St. Petersburg in 1917... or so family tradition says.

It may still be in the garage but the last time I looked it was horribly moldy so it's possible that I threw it out, or it's in the recesses somewhere. I didn't know about the humid south when I moved here. But it survived a transatlantic trip quite nicely. I may have to go look.....

Just ventured to the garage, and see a corner of it. So it's still here! I was right, it's moldy on the outside. Now do you believe me?

    Ha!!!
Even if that stained it it can be killed off so don't just chuck it out.

    Trunks can hold smells.
I dont think Id want to pay that kind of price with out seeing, touching, and smelling.

I have a huge steamer trunk I ripped the insides out of and left open to air out for ever.
Ive sprayed stuff down in it and the smell it still in the wood.
Its not a horrible smell, not pleasant, just odd..

We back to my explaining how to kill that with ozone?

Everyone here seems to love that ozone word.
The cheapest machine I can find is $70.
This can be used to remove the smell in my trunk and if kills mold on paper (books, painting, prints, etc)?

    Honestly I'm scared of them

Yes it will. It won't take any stains away though.
Leave it in there for a day or so...outside, NOT in your garage!!!
    ~
Do it again if it's not enough until you are happy.
If you can plug it in to a switched outlet that is better than pulling the plug out. I don't go near it to turn it off on the machine itself.
    ~
I put a skull and bones sign on whatever I'm doing.
    ~
Turn it off and leave it a bit then open your trunk, move away and let it ventilate out. It will be in the car too so open the doors and wait until you can't smell the ozone any more before you drive or bring the car inside.
    ~
Get a big box or container to do your books outside. Don't seal it tight just let it ventilate some. Same process as above and fan out your books sitting on their bottoms. You could put them in the trunk and do it all at once.

My parents came from Switzerland by ship in 1951 and brought a number of these trunks. The may of course have been older when they came over.

Question please..I have a very early large 6 board pine box which had mothballs in it. Is there any way to get rid of the smell?? thank you
