Featured Does this get you "trunk"?

Am I the only person who thinks this trunk is extremely beautiful?

It seems the lock things are missing.. I think.
Even if they are missing, should I buy it and if so, how much should I pay at most?

I don't recall seeing raised, thin, rounded "slats" like those before.

It's wooden and looks to be coated with something like canvas of some sort.

I don't have any pictures of the interior available.

The store says it's a trunk that was used by people who travelled from Europe to America (and back?) on ships (I don't know when exactly.. I suppose between 18??-1925.

What do you think is the age of the trunk?

 

I'd guess early 1900s. This is one of higher cost initially though curved tops were usually more.
It would be better if it has its interior accoutrements.

Oh, I forgot to say it's 170€ (190$) but that includes the shipping.

Could I justify buying it.. just because it might be nice?

 

I suggest more photos before you commit. Could be all moldy in there or some other issue.

Probably not.. I'm not a fan of re-purposing.

Truthfully, if I buy it and end up keeping it, I'll probably store the christmas decorations in it and pile up a zillion books on top of it.. and a tureen! Tureens make everything better. Well.. only my trusty "face tureen" at the moment.

I figured clean 'er up and put a nice thick piece of edge beveled glass on top.
Make sure its not moldy inside!!!

 

Its very cute , but in my humble opinion that's awfully pricey .

 

It's shipping too and depending upon how far that may not be bad.....
Question is...are they heaving it on a UPS truck or packing it up to protect it.

I think it's too small for sea travel. I agree with King that it might have been on the back of a car.

 

my impression of steamer trunks is they were built to take abuse - after all, they were stacked up on ships. Whereas, trunks that were attached to cars were individual. This one looks too nice to be lumped into a luggage compartment

 

they call this 1930's banded steamer trunk.
