Cedar Chest

    Again, moving soon and have all these pieces I'm not sure if I should hold on to or not. This was my Grandmother's Cedar Chest. The inside is immaculate, and still.has the original tag that came with it. The top on the outside could use some TLC as she used it as a stand for her plants for many years. It does have great sentimental value to me but I'm just not sure if I will.have anywhere to put it. Included in the pics are one of many newspapers I found inside.

    1920s-30s . May I ask what part of the country your in ? not your address , just the general area . :)

    Ah , a very old town indeed . I have a theory that the older the town , the more stuff in it and the less demand there is . Just my musings . :)

    Looks like this was given to your grandmother as a wedding gift.

    I think you said that she was born in 1910. So if she got married at 18, the chest (given new) couldn't be any earlier than late 1920s.

    Do you know what year she got married in?

    She actually didn't get married until 1945, after my Grandfather came back from WWII. They agreed to wait instead of running out & getting married before he left because it would give him a reason to make sure he came home. She had her first child (my father) at 39 & my uncle at 41. Unheard of in those days!

    The wood used inside is american aromatic red cedar...& it will keep your woolens moth free all summer....
    I'd find a way to keep this puppy in the family !!!
