"Soft" Antiques - embroidery, needlework, etc. - marketable?

a note from the wicked stepmother here, My husbands kids from his first wife did not have a good relationship with their father, when we first married I TRIED VERY HARD, to make them feel welcome, include them invite the for holidays etc, They came grudgingly ,when I had our daughter 35 yrs ago they all freaked out, and became more and more distant, and only showed up when they needed something, Finally we moved away about 600 miles away, and then only saw them on very infrequent basis, However they hardly ever called him Fathers day, Christmas, Birthday, ,when he first became ill I called each of them and told them and kept them informed as time (7 years went on_ I must say they did contact him more often sometimes came to visit, One even worked for him for a while, and managed to steal lots of inventory during that time, , when he became very ill hospitalized and dismissed to home hospice his daughter had to be hospitalized for anxiety, and refused to come visit him as she couldnt take it, My daughter his youngest child stayed with me the whole 7 weeks he died inch by inch, I HONESTLY HAD MISGIVINGS ABOUT INCLUDING THEM AT ALL, BUT I did and I gave each of them something of their Dads, and Grandfathers, A silver Urn to his daughter, Mason rings to his son and his grandfathers gun to another, and a Harley Scout to another, plus items like golf clubs,,they took them of course, but found out they were really interested in his gun/ coincollection, and refused lesser items, only wanted anything of value, At that point I switched off, over the years I have heard how they feel they were cheated of their father,s inheritence, that their dad had millions of dollars(I wish), that they should have had a share of his business etc,even though they had absolutely no input into it, and their Dad was only able to start it with my help, and the fact that I had an excellent paying job, I now have virtually no contact with any of them,and am at peace with that, and to be honest I regret I was generous as I was to them, sorry for the rant, but this struck a chord, and maybe I needed to vent. Hope I haven,t offended anyone,

You should have given over any of the guns...as long as the recipient could catch the flying lead thrown from it's barrel.........with their teeth !!!!!!

You were as nice as you could be under the circumstance.

My Grandfather treated me with distain , but still I only wanted his star sapphire ring.
My cousin....his favorite...swooped in and grabbed everything he could get his paws on.....even before my Dad knew what was going on !!!

I feel your.....whatever !!

 

Antiques Roadshow is full of stories like "I got this from an elderly neighbor, whom I helped out for a few years before she died..."
I always wonder how the family felt about that valuable "gift".

 

My view on the "bonus" mom or stepmother is tainted by experience. I am sure there are wonderful stepmothers out there, but there are also some who seem to have no heart or soul. I won't elaborate with details. Suffice to say that I saw first hand what not to do by the bonus mom and it was not pretty.

Regarding those linens, I would give them a go for sale. I think they are pretty and could be finished and/or used for a project.
