'Nuf - do an image search on him & see what you think - The ear, nose, beard - doesn't really look like the same man. Could be from a not very big photo? For something where no-one actually knew him? Also - every photo I could find he is wearing a bow tie.

Nuff - great finds!! I favor that box as well, but it will be exciting to learn more about everything here.

Sharona - that hotel creamer looks old/vintage/antique? I sell a fair amount of vintage souvenir/restaurant items and they do well. Picked up a plate, cup and saucer at GW for 2.92 while on vacation and sold it for 225.00 the next weekend. I've sold vintage hotel spoons found here in GA and shipped them back to NY where they belong. I loved finding that stuff. Good luck!

jakes vintage - WOWza - that is a great haul. What an awesome day!

Mary - love the Christmas wall hanging. I recalled that last year on one of the eBay forums a member discussed finding one and was going to keep it as they are pretty rare and had wanted one for years. Here is a current one offered for sale:

Great finds, everyone! And a new week means new treasures are out there for us to find :)

    Thanks elarnia!

    I doubt if my ID was/is correct. I don't believe that's Stead.

The artist from what little research I have done was in London (1900) when this portrait was executed. I've conducted an image search, but nothing so far.

@ Funkeysfinds, the box is my fav as well. I've never seen anything like it before. The interior is lined with velvet, so it's probably a jewelry or dresser box of some kind. I believe it's American given the hearts and stars decoration, but the name 'Hellen' at front appears European. We were thinking Pennsylvania Dutch and/or German.

Wow. A busy and fruitful week. Great jewelry and buttons too! I rather spend time with a box of old buttons than a box of chocolate. And I really like chocolate.

    Cx Super perfume.
I Bought a few studio pottery pieces and a 1970s vase. Nothing to crow about. Post photos later

This little box http://www.pookandpook.com/cat/2011-02-25/612 they are calling a 19th C. "ditty box" with decorations of hearts at top, stars at sides and name (initials) at front somewhat similar in style to the decoration found on my piece. Unfortunately, a place of origin is not given.

Such a neat box! love it
Thanks Funky the little creamer is silver plate, havnt checked the marks yet, and Trip, yes after a while of digging thru them I listed the buttons last night then ended it so I could dig in them some more lol
I think the horse button is unusual? has a hook for maybe a buckle too? and steel but bead accents. There are several that seem pretty neat

I didn't get out much last week as I was still recovering from the weight of the previous week.

There was an estate sale closeby showing a table of jewerly. When I got there they had already let a few in early. The jewelry was completely picked through. I did see a box of cheap stainless souvenir spoons. Ten cents a each. Thought I should dig through it.

The South Dakota town is no more. The Phoenix one is from when it was a little farming community. First Marius Hammer piece I've found in over a year. I couldn't find a reason for the 1892 or what the St John whatever is about. Of course the Canadian ones won't sell.

Terry, why won't the Canadian ones sell? Like, not sell in the US or not sell at all?

There is little US interest in things Canuck

and the high Postal rates have made many Canadians shy away from US listings

Well, I can understand that -- however, if they're sterling, I guess they could be sold for scrap -- I don't think either is all that collectible, but the one from Toronto could have some value, maybe. I like the twig handle and stem. Dunno what the letters mean (some Roman Catholic group, I guess). Here's a little info on the church: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Michael's_Cathedral_(Toronto)

Today was furniture day. Most of you know how terrible I am with furniture, and how little I know about it, but today I believe we did ok. Purchased 4 pieces at $400.
(sorry about the poor quality images)

These we "think" date to the 1920s/30s Art Deco Period...

Large 7 x 4 foot wool, cotton and silk Chinese rug.

Small approx. 29 x 18 x 6 in. Chinese hand-carved solid & heavy wooden low table with burlwood, bamboo and mother-of-pearl inlay.

    TABLE 001-001.JPG

The other 2 items I haven't taken images as of yet. They are an 18th/19th C. American or European gate-leg table similar to this: http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...lnut-gateleg-table-early-5350470-details.aspx and a 19th/early-20th C. Scottish(?) chippendale chair very similar to the one below, but missing its seat & cover. The one we have has the armrest and ball & claw feet.
