...which could ruin it, if I'm not careful!

So it's in terrific shape, having seen only light use, if any(?). It still has the original key and store tag from Italian boutique! But it does have some issues:

    1. The brushed brass fittings have oxidized
    2. The dark leather scuffs if you look at it.

I tried using Wink with q-tip on the brass, just to see if it would lift the oxidation. Nope.

    Haven't even touched the leather.

I used to take things like this to a local shoe repair shop that does Nordstrom repairs on Coach, Gucci etc. He was very good on repairs, but ruined the finish on a Coach kiss-lock bag I'd carried for years, so I'm hesitant to take it to him.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Ouch.
I was gonna suggest finding a really good shoe/leather guy. I know a local dude who can make silk purses out of sows' ears. Maybe ask around for a really good shop? Or have a Margarita and try your guy again!

    EDIT
My ol' man says if it's brass plate, soap and water is all you can do, because you'll just make it worse with anything stronger. If it is solid, he says, then you can use polish. If it's lacquered, he says you have to use acetone to take that off, but he says that's tricky. Oh, brother... he's still talking but I just ran out of listening. Find a shop, I say!

What a fantastic saying - can I steal that and use it? :)

Bright Idea/Possibility: could just brush it again! (too risky??????)

A light tan one w/o key or tag sold at a swanky auction for $430 - I may reduce it and sell as-is. It's just a shame, because it's really clean, just needs a little help.

    ! yes, I'll try it !

It's oxidized through the lacquer and into the grooves plus a little pitted on the button.

I wouldn't mind it the tacks were darker... I did try "Wink," which is phenomenal for red rust, but didn't budge the oxidation.
